Public Protection LLC (dba) Public Protection Transitional Counseling Service is a Substance Abuse Prevention Provider our mission statement is to provide confidential, supportive, mentoring, sponsorship, and substance abuse prevention outreach services to the citizens of Michigan.  Our purpose is to provide assistance to those who are struggling with homelessness, drug addiction, chronic alcoholism and many legal barriers. Furthermore, with combined efforts our counselors want to help individuals become self-sufficient and productive members of the community and society at large by assisting them in transitioning into the 21st century...

Background History and Founder:
Public Protection LLC is owned and managed by Michael A. Johnson grand opening Spring 2004.  Also, the company has configuired a staff who is equipped to handle many task.  I manage and supervise a small staff of volunteers that are familiar with the struggles and successes of addiction from their own personal experiences.   Many of our transitional prevention programs under the umbrella of Public Protection LLC are self supporting.  We accept tax deductible donations and welcome financial contributions.

Background History:
Through discovering the potential resources of systemic reform.  I have come to understand from personal experience and research that prisoner re-entry, the process of leaving prison and returning to society has become a pressing issue both in the State of Michigan and nationally.  Rising incarceration rates over the past quarter century have resulted in more individuals being released from prison each year.  From personal experience the challenges that ex-offenders face are many.  More prisoners nationwide are returning home having spent longer terms behind bars, exacerbating the already significant challenges of finding employment and reconnecting with family.  Prisoners today are typically less prepared for reintegration, less connected to community based social structures, and more likely to have health and/or substance abuse problems than in the past.

As a result, I became passionately concerned about my own state of past, present, future affairs and that of others.  I became increasingly focused on the affects and effects that my time in prison had imposed on my reintegration into society. One factor amongst many became general to all, the ongoing need for professional and directive counseling, substance abuse prevention and aftercare programs. Upon discharge, I immediately assumed the role of student at Muskegon’s Baker Business College as a double major receiving a degree in Human Service, Small Business Certification, and attained a certification from the (MCBAP) Michigan Certified Board of Addiction Professionals CAC.

My professional experience includes, outpatient work with individual and groups, assessments, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, case management, treatment and discharge planning of clients and motivational speaking.

I have a compassion for helping others through re-entry initiatives, it continued to become evident that I could help those who shared the same experiences that I did. Those who had also been incarcerated and who had also overcome those barriers to which I was challenged with in order to reintegrate back into society all of this led me to the forming of Public Protection LLC.

Philosophy:
Addiction affects all areas of our lives; physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional.  Often, we live our lives in chains never realizing that we have the key.  An addict's main problem is the inability to live life on life's terms.  One day at a time is all that God gives us.  If you want to use, that is your business.  If you want to quit, that is our business.  The philosophy of Public Protection Transitional Substance Abuse Prevention Services is that recovery is possible and that chronic alcoholics and drug addicts can become healthy, productive members of society.
